How to tell if an Instagram account bought followers
Bought likes are cheap. Bought reach is not something anybody sells. So the honest test compares an account's likes against the people who actually saw the posts.
Verdict
Not enough to tell
Enter followers and average likes at least. Accounts reached is what turns a guess into a verdict.
Why an outside checker can only guess
Every public fake follower tool works from the same two numbers: the follower count, and the likes and comments anyone can see.
Reach — the number of accounts Instagram showed a post to — is served only to the account holder. So are saves, shares, profile visits and link taps. A tool that has never been given access to the account has to infer all of them, and different tools infer differently.
With reach the question stops being a guess. A like requires someone to have seen the post, so more likes than accounts reached is not something organic behaviour produces. That is the first check above, and it needs the creator’s own insights to run.
Checking a creator for a brand deal?
Don't ask for a screenshot of their insights — it is a number with no sample and nothing stopping an edit. Ask for a link computed from the account itself.
A Pullsy grade runs these checks post by post on the creator’s own data, plus the ones averages cannot reveal: comment bursts, followers arriving without reach, and engagement concentrated on a few posts. A hard failure caps the letter, and the link recomputes every time it is opened.
See the account gradeWhat this check will not claim
- It screens averages. A single bought post hidden among real ones only shows when every post is checked.
- A flag is “consistent with” bought engagement, not proof of it.
- A low rate against followers accuses nobody — it is as consistent with a quiet week.
Questions people ask
How can you tell if someone bought followers on Instagram?
From outside the account you can only estimate, because reach is private. From inside it the test is arithmetic: a like needs someone to have seen the post, so likes cannot exceed the accounts reached, and followers arriving while reach stays flat did not come from being seen.
Do fake follower checkers work?
As estimates. They compare public likes and comments against the follower count, which catches crude cases and disagrees with itself on subtle ones — because the number that would settle it, reach, is only available to the account holder.
What is a suspicious like rate on Instagram?
Measured against reach, a typical post liked by 45% or more of the people who saw it, on an account above 5,000 followers, is past what an audience produces unprompted. Below that size a high rate is usually friends and family. Against followers there is no honest threshold.
Can a creator prove their followers are real?
Yes — by sharing figures computed from their own insights with the sample stated, rather than a screenshot. Reach, saves and link taps are only visible to the account holder, so sharing them is the proof an outside checker cannot produce.
Does this catch engagement pods?
Rarely. A pod is real accounts behaving in a coordinated way, so the reach test passes. What sometimes shows is a comment pattern: a few posts with a comment-to-like ratio nothing else on the account comes near, which the full account grade checks post by post.
