What happened to impressions on Instagram?
In short
Impressions — the number of times a post was shown — is no longer reported: Meta deprecated it in April 2025 and replaced it with views.
Impressions used to be the count of times your content appeared on screen. Reels had their own equivalent, plays. Meta deprecated both for every version of the Instagram API on 21 April 2025, and the metric that replaced them is views, which covers every format with one definition.
The practical consequence is that a report from before the change and one from after are not measuring the same thing, even when both are labelled as "how many times it was seen". Compare views with views, and treat older impression counts as a different series.
Two other account metrics went the same way on the same date: profile_views and website_clicks. The replacement for link taps is covered on link taps.

Use views for exposure and reach for audience size.
Where to find it
It no longer appears as a separate figure. Views sits where it used to, in a post's View insights and in Account insights.
Questions people ask
Why did impressions disappear from Instagram insights?
Meta deprecated impressions (and plays, its reels equivalent) in April 2025 and replaced both with a single metric, views, which is defined the same way for posts, reels and stories.
Related metrics
- ViewsViews count the number of times your post, reel or story was played or displayed, including repeat views by the same person.
- ReachReach is the number of unique accounts that saw your post, reel or story at least once — people, not views, so one person watching three times counts once.
- Link tapsLink taps is the number of times people tapped a link on your Instagram profile — the closest Instagram comes to measuring traffic you sent somewhere.
